Well it would seem that in this case, there is one very important difference between the V and non-V models... non-V B4s have the speedo pick up off the front wheel, not the gearbox.

My bike has a speedo drive with the tang as you describe on the end. Its a twin disc model but not a v.

Thanks! Wouldn't you know it having a rare bike had so many fun things to learn. :) All part of the experience I guess.

If anyone knows where to buy a tang drive speedo cable for the V model Bandit 400 or non-V model with twin discs, please let me know. I could use one. :) (And after crashing it on Friday a few other parts that gsxr400 racer has been so kind to locate for me.   )

www.wemoto.com are pretty good for parts, including cables.

have you tried your local suzuki dealer?  they can be useful sometimes.  im sure lots of other bikes have the same speedo cable.

Hey Forde,

Yes I've talked to Chung at wemoto for awhile now. Seems they don't have the same cable and as far as the local shop goes they phoned into Suzuki Canada to get parts and the guy there just laughed at them. My bike is a Japanese version imported some time ago.

gsxr400 racer has actually sourced all my parts for 30-40% cheaper then the local shop. He's been way more then helpful so I'm happy to go through him. He found all the parts and then some. He's even helped me source what bike have similar parts and wouldn't you know it. All Japanese
