Need help
« on: June 24, 2005, 01:34:39 AM »
Just lately my bike seems to feel a little strange at the front end. I cant really feel any play in the head set or in the wheel, but what i have found is that both the front discs seem to be a little loose on the outer part (does that make sense??) Could this cause the the strange feeling problem? Also im finding that when i accelerate my horn beeps, it can be quite embarrassing sometimes. Any idea what thats all about??
Thanks guys
Becky

My friend has just taken a look for me and he says that my suspension is too soft. I just had the fork seals done about a month ago and my friend says that maybe the guy didnt put enough oil in or the right kind or something. Could this be the problem?? Could this affect the handling??

Are you sure everthing is back together correctly?  How's the tire?

Gotta say, I am LMAO thinking of your horn going off every time you get on the throttle.

Im really not sure what iol is in there. The guy at the garage did it for me so maybe i should get it back to him to take a look. When my friend took a look this morning he pushed down on the forks a few times and at one point it bottomed out so maybe it is the sus. Also on my way home this morning i noticed my full beam indicator light was on and it doesnt go off when i turn the full beam on or off i checked the lights and think i may have a bulb out. could this cause my full beam indicator light to come on?? Also how easy are they to change??
PS The horn thing is really starting to bug me. I guess it is quite funny until you start getting funny looks from pedestrians and car drivers!!

I can only image what happens when you accelerate past the police... follow it up with with the one finger salute, and you'd have a chase on your hands.

Sounds like you have some electrical issues. If you're not good at sorting that type of thing out its probably best to take it to someone. They can be a real pain to figure out.

I have a real good track record with the fuzz. I have not been stoppped once even the time when i was doing 55 in a thirty zone and i found a cop had pulled up at the side of me at the lights. I sht my self and all they said was "watch your speed" i nodded the lights changed and we went our seperate ways, but that was close and i was very lucky! So do you think the reason for my high beam indicator light being on could be caused by a bulb going??

I dont think the high beam light is on because a bulb is going. Bulbs ususally either work or they dont.
I think you have some electrical gremlins that need to be hunted down. Could be a bad ground somewhere in the main wire harnes that is affecting numerous things. I'd start by taking a brush and cleaning the contact surfaces of all the ground connections you can get to. There should not  be that many. See if thats helps, then proceed from there.

I think it might have to be a job for the garage then. I just about know where my spark plugs are so i wouldnt even know where to start looking for the contact surfaces. Where would they be and how would i get to them? I dont mean to sound feeble, but really just ride my bike and the most technical i get is filling him up with petrol! Ive never really had a chance to learn the ins and outs of bike mechanics although i would like to be able to do the simple things my self rather than waste time and money taking it to the garage all the time. Any pointers and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Me and my friend have just taken my headlight apart and checked the buld. Its not blown, it looks fine and we also connected it up to the battery and it works fine too. Next we took out the fuses and they are all in one piece, but my lights were still not working. When we started to put every thing back together i notice that the square plastic connector that fits to the back of the bulb is slightly melted around one of the connection points do you think this could be the problem?? My friend said that it should have blown a fuse before this had chance to happen?? Im stumped. Please help my MOT is due shortly and tihs really needs fixing.

What you seem to have is a classic high resistance connection either between the wire and the connector terminal (unlikely) or between the terminal and the spade from the headlight bulb (likely).  The terminal (inside the connector) is made of tin coated brass.  It is intended to act like a spring and apply continuous pressure to the spade on the bulb.  Due to vibration, it may have relaxed its connection, causing a high resistance connection.  This leads to high temperature and melting of the plastic connector body.  Once this happens, it anneals the brass and ruins the terminal for good.

The bad news is that there is no easy way to fix it.  I am sure Suzuki will be happy to sell you a complete wire harness in order to get a new connector.  Better yet, you should be able to find one at a salvage, you can splice it in place of the original.  I think most, if not all, motorcycles use the same connector.  Just take your headlight and confirm a match before purchasing a new part, and you should be on your way.

Be sure and clean the spade on your bulb to remove any carbon build up to prevent the same problem again.

Good Luck,

I am almost certain it will work, and for the money it would be worth a try.  As a bonus, you will have all copies of most of the other connectors on your bike.
