Anyone taken the air box screen out? If so...did you re-jet(AGAIN)?? I am thinking of taking it out as trying to put the nasty thing back on the carbs is a job and a half!!!!!

AFAIK, the only thing inside the airbox is the filter.

If you mean the snorkel then you need to shim the needles 2 .020 #4 shims with a slip on exhaust. I may still have some if you want me to send you some. Your mixture screws are then going to have to be turned out to around 3 turns or so. If you want to keep the airbox completely stock you can just use 1 shim and turn the mixture screws out 1/4 turn or so outside stock around 2.75 and it works fine like that but you're not getting the full benefit with that piddly snorkle in there. Unless you are sort of having an idea of what you're doing I would suggest keeping the bike stock and buying a plug and play jet kit. It will work 100% that way.

Or do you mean the entire airbox lid? Then you will most definately need to re-jet. Probably with something crazy like 140 mains or something huge. I wouldn't try it unless you're a super tuner.

mine has a screen just in front of the carbs.

may keep larger rodents from entering carb throat if stored with filter removed.

Hmmm... just looked at the parts book for the 1G & 2G and neither one shows any screen, just the filter, boc, lid, snorkel, etc.

Red01, It's behind the filter.

To remove it just push hard in the center and it will fold in and then pull it out. You will not be able to reinstall it as it was put in there before they glued the two halves of the airbox together. I took mine out as per Holeshot stage 2 with airbox instructions.

I think the reson nobody knows of the screen is that as soon as air box comes off first time screen gets thrown to the shit house where it belongs.Once you have done that then you can throw the air box to the shitter as well,pods are the way to go.

You don't just throw it out. It has to be forcefully removed. It's a pretty stiff screen with a folded metal border that is recessed into a groove on the ABS plastic airbox.

Ok....lotsa replies....Snorkel is gone, I am running a Yosh slip on with a Dynojet kit, would like to retain stock airbox as I do not feel pods are the way to go, , especially in the rain. Needles are where DJ recommends for Canada, seems to pull nice and strong, but will removing the screen upset anything? The bike is a 99.....with Holeshot drop in cams, advancer, Yosh, Dyno jet......Just need to know before binning the damn thing!!!!!!!

I had the same screen on my '97 B12. I removed that screen because it was bent and didn't want to stay in the box anymore. That screen doesn't restrict flow enough to cause any problems. I removed mine, and my Ivans 1st stage jet kit was uneffected.

I suppose the technical term for the "screen" is "air filter filter"
