Slip Ons and Centre Stands

I am considering either a Yosh or Holeshot slip on.  Can the centre stand be retained or does it need to be removed to allow installation?

When I decided to mount my Yoshi RS3 slip-on on my 05 I reviewed my Clymer service manual and the pipe installation instructions, never once did the thought of removing my center stand enter my mind. If you do remove your center stand don’t use a lift under the frame.

If not mistaken, the non-Holeshot pipes will bolt on to the OEM middle pipe, which retains the center stand stop.  A Holeshot slip on comes with a lighter middle pipe, which has been engineered to allow retention of the center stand.  Either way, you are set.

The Yosh replaces the mid as well but has the same stop for the center stand.  IIRC the Holeshot pipe needs an additional part to retain the stand.

He is correct. If you need one let me know I have an extra.
Spend the extra money and get a S/O that replaces the mid pipe unless you want it just to be louder.

Also, you can take the center stand off, leave the spring off and just hand thread the bolts back in when you need to use it. It saves almost 8-9lbs

that's true with the newer Holeshot pipes, but the one I bought back in '01 had a stock style stop welded to the midpipe. I just had to take the little rubber bumper off my stock mid-pipe and transfer it over to the Holeshot one.

I recently installed my Holeshot Slip-On and I retained the center stand.  It came with a neat little bracket that mounts to the frame to act as a stop instead of the stock stop that was on the mid-pipe.  

However, because I have installed a Hayabusa shock, the center stand touched the lower part of the shock linkage at full extension.  

The fix was obvious and easy.  I went to my local shoe repair shop and asked for a piece of rubber heel material 3/8 inch thick.  I cut a piece to fit the stop, glued it to the stop with 3M 5200 and now everything works like stock again (and the look is much cleaner than having a stop welded to the mid-pipe).
