ENGINE VIBRATION

I HAVE AN 03 BANDIT 1200S WITH 1000 MILES ON IT THAT I JUST BOUGHT. IT HAS A PRONOUNCED VIBRATION AT 4000 RPM WHICH REALLY VIBRAYES THE TANK AND SETS UP A BUZZ IN THE FAIRING. IS THIS NORMAL. THERE ISN'T ANY OTHER BANDIT RIDERS IN MY AREA TO COMPARE WITH.

4th or 5th gear has the same vibration? Its not a speed thing, tires etc? Take it back and make em fix it... That's not rite @ 4k...

Is this just the usual "BANDIT BUZZ"?  That can be fix in 30 minutes with just the tools that come with the bike.  If it's something more then you have trouble.

My '03 1200S vibrates the worse around 4000 rpm and slightly above, even though it's in a perfect state of tune.  I suppose that's why the engine is rubber mounted, the peg brackets are rubber mounted, the handlebars are weighted and rubber mounted.  I think the Bandit is a great machine...but they do have quite a vibration in that RPM range.

Hey Don't settle for it!!! The B12 1gen or up should be virtually vib free if all is in tune!!! I see you are swuft on this stuff retired (former mechanic/service mgr ['78-'88]at a Honda M/C dealership...former insurance adjuster) But i thought my B12 1st gen was smooth until i did the carb sync... After, i couldn't believe how much better it was.

I dont notice any buzz or vibration in my 2002 Bandit 1200s,  But  I have owned  several Metric  V- twins   and a couple Harleys  and all inline 4 cyl seem smooth as silk  to me.   I would either  Ride  some one elses Bandit and compare or  take it back to the dealer for a check up or both if you can!

BB is from Arkansas or Texas, (since Texarkana is a border town) either way he does not realize that all caps is yelling!  We are just Now learning  how to turn the computers ON!

Thanks Woodog. I didn't have a clue as to what Solman was talking about until I read your post. Fortunately my life doesn't allow me much time to devote to sitting in front of a computer. And it is Texas and I DID just find the on button to this thing.

I posted this write up on the Max-zukie forum. You'll be glad you did this if you decide to do it. The only update is that while I had my tank off for doing my Stage 1 install, I added rubber between the bracket (for the fairing) and the frame. I cut up a bicycle tire to use as a gasket.

Another thing the bandit is famous for is fairing buzz, which can be fixed by placing a layer of electrical tape between the fairing pieces.

Sometimes the little screws that hold the fairing frame assemblies will come out also. (It appears Zuki is cheap with locktight at the factory) I did get a buzz out of mine at around the same mileage.

All inline 4's have a range where vibration is noticed. The B-12's is 3500-4000 rpm. If it is tuned really well, you will not notice it much, but it is the noisy harmonic range in that engine.

At 4000 rpm is when the timing is the most advanced so maybe it's a little buzzy around that region. Mine has slightly more vibration at that rpm then goes away by 4300. I had to rubber mount the windsheild to make the actual noise go away.
