G2 B6 Holeshot jet kit...timing advancer?
« on: May 03, 2007, 08:42:31 PM »
I just purchased a Holeshot Jet kit for my 2001 B600s, It comes with the timing advancer, do I need to install it.  I have read some old posts on this subject and dont remember anyone saying that it was a noticeable help. It seems like everyone just gets the better results from the jetting alone and even saw that someone got really BAD results from installing the advancer.  I would love just a " Do it" or "Don't Do it" from you guys. I will be getting the kit end of next week so next weekend I'll try to do the jetting...Dont know if I am confident to doing it myself or take it in to the shop...lol! Anyway im confused on weather or not I should install it...I guess I can always do it and if it turns out shitty, just put the old one back in.

That sentence says it all, just put it in and if you don't like put the stock one back in!

I put Dale's Stage 2 air box and jet kit in my 02 1200 with the advancer and it runs bitchin!

You might not notice the difference, might be a little harder to start when the engine is hot, but on the dragstrip, I have proved to myself that they help. 2 or 3 miles per hour in the 1/4 mile.

Don't know specifically about a b6, but my b12 had a stumble before I put mine in after switching to a stage II set up

Yeah thats the problem with some of the tuning is that most everyone has a B12 so some of us who want the best out of a B6 gets the feed back on what a person did with a B12.  But when it comes to the carb's and how they perform when tuned they are not the same and its kinda nice to know what a person found out with a B6 has done. But I really appreciate all the feed back and comments...any are worth knowing even if they don't perticularly fit my situation.

IMHO, the kit came with an advancer, so that says the kit was designed to work its best with it.

I've read Ivan's reports that they are a waste of time and money with his 1200 kit on a dyno - the test bike lost half a horsepower. Dale says they make more difference in throttle response than in actual horsepower numbers though he claims they add power with his kits. Throttle response is something the dyno is not as likely to reveal.

It's ~5-10 minute job to swap the trigger. Not too difficult to try it both ways and see for yourself which way works best.

Yeah thanks Paul, I am actually interisted in better throttle res then HP. I was just brousing over some old posts and a couple of people said that for there 600's the TA was worse, dont know if something else was making them get bad results or what.  I will probabbly not be doing the jetting because I'm super scared to F-up something that works pretty darn well now!!  :bomb:
I do think its a little strange that Ivans kits never mention a timing tweak, and yet here in the forums people are moding the timing to get better performance. But I guess I will find out soon enough.  Gona take the bike in when ever I get the jet kit, have the shop so a valve job while they are at it and hope that I will be rocking when its all done.
