Rough running below 4K RPM
« on: September 07, 2009, 11:57:36 AM »
Hi all.

This is my first big post... well my first post! so go easy lol. Bit of history. Got the bike brand new and at 2K Miles i had K+N, Race Pipe, Dynojet stage 1 fitted. got from 99BHP to 117BHP so V happy. now....

Problem: (current milage 13000)
Since then i have had a stutter when going to WOT quickly from under 4K RPM after some steady crusing. if i sit at 3K rpm and wack open the throttle fast it seems to miss a beat then pull like a train! If i pull the clutch and blip it to sort of clear its throat, then release clutch and try again its ok. its only after 10-20 secs of constant revs below 4k.. After 4K rpm there is no hesitation at all.

The guy who did the tuning said to lean off the pilot (idle mix??) screws off a bit as its flooding itself in the low range. So after 10000 miles with this issues (i learned to live with it and "clear it" before i wanted to shoot off) i decided to sort it as i now have moved to Malta where there are no highways and its all low speed/town riding.

So now.. its been standing for a loooooong time (registration issues, but now i got plates!!) but i took it out every month or so or at least started her up. So i took it to my mechanic here (i think he is quite crap to be honest) to clean the carbs (i dont think he did!) and to lean off the idle mix like i was told to all that time ago to fix the hesitation. The hesitation is still there and it idles EVEN WORSE! and now its starting on 3.5 cylinders after i leave it for a few days then after 20-30 secs it runs on 3.8 lol.. its cause there is ALWAYS a slight misfire of what seems like 1 cylinder, the rev counter never stays 100% steady, now i know jet kits make the idle a bit rougher and i dont mind this, but the issue is when im riding below 4K rpm its very rough and so hard to ride slow. also its impossible even in neutral to hold revs at say 2K Rpm. the needle waves about all over the place. but at say 8K rpm the needle can be held pretty steady.

I havent done anything else.. but im gonna fix it myself and not rely on mechanics... so what do you guys suggest? i will try adjusting the TPS as i read on here. but not sure what else! It seems like its only 1 carb.

Thanks in advance!!
