K1 Bandit 1200 Fuelling Problems
« on: April 25, 2005, 07:07:37 PM »
I've got a 2001 Bandit 1200 K1.. Big problems with fuelling.. Runs fine up to 4000 RPM then coughs, splutters etc. It has a 'povic SSTL 4 into 1 race system, stage 2 dynojet kit and has been dyno'd with 118.9 at the back wheel.. Dyno shows clean power curve throughout the rev range, and it revs cleanly at a standstill (no load), it's driving me mental.. :stickpoke:
Ring the bell at death's door, then run like hell....he hates that!

So your saying it runs fine on the dyno, but will not pull past 4k riding?

Or it has previously run fine on a dyno, but recently will not pull past 4k?

If it just started happening, I would look at fuel delivery, from petcoc to carb, or a blocked vent line for the tank.

My opinion, and yes, I know about opinions, is that Dynojets are just fine if the installer/bike magician knows what he is about.  My guy, Konrad the Bavarian, spent a day with my bike riding, adjusting and running it on the dyno.  He could never get it the way that he liked it until he removed part #GSF 1200K1 E03 E28_039.  Picked up two more horsepower and that was 800 strong and smooth miles ago....I'm a Happy Dynojeter   and it was less expensive....

I'm glad that there are a few happy B12 Dynojet customers. Sadly, they seem to be a rare commodity and that's why DJ gets a bad rap here and other Bandit sites.

How much does a Dynojet kit and a day of tuning cost?

How does that compare to a Holeshot, Ivan's or Factory-Pro kit that almost anyone can install by following their instructions and get a smooth running bike 99% of the time? And for the 1% that have troubles, a simple phone call will get them all the help they need.

The HP seems a tad low for a full system and stage 2, also, but that doesn't solve his problem. :duh:

Throw the Dynojet kit away. Fit a Factory pro, Ivans or Holeshot kit and get it set up on a dyno. You will gain power, torque and driveability everywhere. I've had great results with the Stage 3  Factory kit, K&N RU2922 dual filters and Akro full system. Don't worry too much how much power your bike shows on the dyno- all dynos read slightly differently anyway, the only important figure is the difference between your base run and your final run. This will be your actual hp and torque gain. It should be around 25bhp for these mods, and wait til you see the torque curve! Try to get an air/fuel graph too (some dynos/software won't do this). Then post the graphs and let people on the board analyse them. Now this bit's important-ignore everyones opinion UNLESS THEY ARE QUALIFIED TO GIVE IT-especially with the fuel graph. I have just had a major set to with a spotty kid on another board over graphs that were posted by a third party. He spouted off about atmospheric pressure and temperature variations in an attempt to impress someone who gave a damn. I wouldn't normally be drawn into this banal rubbish, but they were charts that I printed from my Dynojet 250i that he was bad mouthing. Oh yeah, I'm also an approved Powercommander Centre in the UK, so I guess I'm qualified! Good luck in sorting your bike:-)

I,ve just reread Stevenbobs first post.If it ran fine on the dyno, but developed this fault after a period of usage I would have to say that the emulsion tubes in the carbs are worn. This is caused because the finish on dynojet needles is quite rough. As the needle moves up and down in the emulsion tube it 'saws' the front of the tube and ovals it out. This is a common problem with Mikuni carbs, even with stock needles and will be much more apparent when the bike is under load, as opposed to being revved on the stand. Hope this helps

1. I'm pleased that you are glad that I am happy...

2. Less than I could afford and it provided work for a man supporting his family....

3. My guy is one simple phone call, twenty minutes away and not in   Kalifornia...and we have long conversations about other possible improvements..face to face...

Sounds like the mains are too small or you may have an air leak at the carbs. I use to build GSXR engine for dragracing and used dyno jet jet kits exclusively. The Busas and ZX12s are FI and I don't know about the jet kits today. We use to throw the Factory jet kits, that came with some exhaust, in the trash and install Dynojet.
If I didn't have a Suzuki, I would have a Kawasaki

Thanks,
I got the Bandit because of my experiance with the GSXR oil cooled engines, and because I had 2 GSXRs, in different states of disassembly. I have the complete clutch assembly from a 1986 GSXR in my Bandit. The Dyna ignition came from my 89 dragbike that had broken the crank. The cams also came from that engine, before I swaped them for the Cammotion G21s. I have removed the extended swingarm and put the stock one on. It is a kick to ride :cop:
