OEM Tire question
« on: July 13, 2008, 11:47:55 AM »
Hello.  I have a 2001 b600s with 6100 miles on it now.  when i purchased it 6 weeks ago it had 4700 miles on it.  I am just wondering if the Battlax  BT56 's i have on them are the original ones or replacements.  The tread seems good... but this is my first motorcycle and i guess i am judging them like i would a car tire.  they pass the penny test and still have a nice round shape (not boxed)...  The guy i bought the bike from only put a few hundred miles on it and his fiance asked him to get rid of it to pay for wedding (poor chap).  He was the 2nd owner and he told me the original owner and himself did all servicing at suzuki. its in good shape other than it runs a bit lean judging by color of exhaust pipes.  ... back to original question..  hehe sorry.

Are the Bridgestone Battlax bt56 original for this bike?   whats the life of them, about 5k miles typically right?

Check the tire's date code... that might give you an idea if they are the original tires.

Date code can be found near the DOT imprint on the side wall.  There'll be a 3 or 4 (hopefully 4) digit code molded right next to it.  The first two digits represent the WEEK of the year... the last 2 digits will be the YEAR...

Example....  3504 = Thirty-fifth week of 2004

If there are only 3 numbers that means the tire was made in the nineties and you'll want to dispose of that beast asap.

Thanks for the info.   it looks like the front tire is sept.6 2001  (k9601 on tire followed by made in japan)  and the rear is 9902 so i guess they were originals.  tread still looks good but i will replace them just to play it safe.  Any suggestions?  should i stick to the battlax bt56 thats on it, i see that suzuki put them on the huyabusa also, though my bike is no sport bike haha.    I was also looking at the dunlop roadsmarts , they recieved a great reviews.

Well i just ordered some Dunlop Roadsmarts for the b6.   Hopefully the stellar reviews are true.  I think the tires i have now should hold out the next 2 weeks untill these are in and mounted.  My next purchase is a stage 1 holeshot jet kit but i will save that question for a diffrent post... :)   Thanks for everyones input.
