Opinions in Shinko Tires?

Anyone have experience with these?  I was in Ron Ayers the other day, and noticed that they have them in stock bandit size for a bit under $200 for F/R including tax! woo-hoo!

What do you all think of them, if anything?

I'm not famillar with them but I just bought a set of Pirelli Diablo Stratas for my B12 for 215.00. So for not much more money you should be able to get good, name brand tires. Just my .02's worth.

The boys down under have had this brand around for a while and I guess they've been on US tracks for a bit. Haven't heard any flaming negatives on 'em. Maybe some of the Oz/NZ riders will speak up with more info.

OTOH, you can get name brand tires for the B12 for <$200 (with shipping) if you shop around.

Someone asked this same ? in the April issue of Motor Cyclist.  They have heard good things about them in track use.  They should have a full review soon.

I myself haven't tried them but B6Mick swears by them, reckons they're the ducks guts, every bit as good as the Metzlers but a damned site cheaper.

Shinko tire try out. B12s 98
« Reply #5 on: April 14, 2005, 02:23:47 PM »
Got a pair 120f-190r 009 (hi mile street / tour) Shinko radial zr rating. I am tired of changing worn out in the middle tires every 5 to 6k. Bike used for to & from work, 22mi ea way. Daytona Florida so ride all year, except in hurricanes!!! Tried all the Dunlop, Bridgstone, Azaro, Conti,, The most i got was from the Mich Mac a call it!! 7k Shinko's have been on for over 2k now, i'm not a knee dragger, my B12 has 29k on it, 16 x 43 tooth sprockets for I-95 commuting. To old to care about wheelies. The 009 which is the sport / tour holds the corners as well as any i've used, show no signs of any wear @ this point. (took 500mi to wear the rubber te te's off!!! And the best of all they cost me! 120F & 190R 009 $157.00 for both to my door over the web! (not ebay!!!) For you sport riders If the 005's are as good as the 009's i say Whats not to like!    P/s 190 isn't for, or won't fit your stock B12 unless you !!!

Just an update on the Shinko 009 120/190's close to 4k on em, rear is @ 5/32 @ center (start with 7/32) front looks like it was just installed! no signs of wear!! Rear i have scuff marks almost too the edge of these fat 190's so i'm not a total winp on the corners! Great grip in the wet, as any i've used. Air pressure seems to stay the same not like some others i've had. AZ m sports seem to be dropping the ball! had some complaints from folks i've suggested these to, but they do arrive sooner/mostly later. I see they won't have the 190's till the end of this month. If you aren't going to install these yourself? I wouldn't be ordering until i check the total cost from those who will! some sock it to ya if you bring em with you!!!  Great tire so far even if they weren't so cheap! they won't be for long once they get their foot in the door!!

New update 8/3 over 5k on em of I95 straight, middle of tire wearing miles. Just under 5/32 tread depth left in the middle of the rear! 7/32 in middle of the front! which is what they start at. Front has feathered the tread on the left side of the tire (minor) i was running the 33psi the tag said, bumped it up to 39 the tire says up to 42 seems to have helped. Normal L-side wear for us that drive on the R-side of the road. This is the best mileage i've ever gotten out of any i've used! By now all others would be ready to change. The 190 on the rear seems to flatten out for more rubber on the road. I'm sold on em! I would like to sign up for training with those that can get 12k miles out of a dunloped or bridg rock i wore those out in 5k or less!

I'm thinking of ordering my spare soon and heard of somone getting mega miles out of a 170/60/17 rear tire on a b12!!  any words????Update 8/18 5.5k 4/32 left to go! I'm ordering my spare from az now. Do you see what some educated ebay shoppers are paying for these!!!? No i'm not a seller of these just a happy customer of shinko's. Hope they don't run into some oil ceo's on the golf course that teaches them how to make big profit on GOUGING the consumer! One could almost make it worth the time to buy a few and sell em on ebay! Here is the shinko info site link if your interested.

Well Here it is almost 4 months later front tire will last another rear with no prob! Still has 5/32 and no more feather wear since i increased the air pressure. (P/S you knee dragger want to beezz, I'd say get the 005 front and 009 rear! let em wear out together. A ausie on this site said they were doing that too) The rear has 3/32 on one side in the middle & 4/32 on the other! Yep has a bit of vibration i can feel if i get over 90mph. No biggie i'll use that to remind me i don't need to. Ordered my new one, got it in one week $95.00 for a 190-50x17 009 shipped to my door. Still won't get but a bit over 6.5k on the rear! I must not use the front enough i still have f-b pads that came with bike new & in good shape. So far their isn't anything i can say that is neg about these tires!! These tires (009's) rock all around!!!

Fwd end of your  rear brake caliper brace has to be moved outboard on the swing arm bracket just unbolt,  move, rebolt. Works for me! 20k running 190's of all kind. the shinko's are the widest of em all. 009 is the ones i own.   :beers:     Took a week to get em after paying with c.card shipping included.

Aussiebandit is right, I do swear by them, best allrounder of a tyre I have found in 28 years of street riding. Love them and love the price even better. The last rear on the b6 lasted 23 and half thousand k's, I think that works out at just a tad under 15 thousand miles. Wet or dry it gripped as good as any.

Yep I use the 009, a mate uses the 005's on his gsx1400 reckons they are the best he ever used, so impressed he now sells them at his shop, and thats the only tyre he sells.

And for the knee scrappers the 003's are getting some rave reports.

But I reckon the 009's are just fine, and I do ride like a nutter, ( Ask aussiebandit :stickpoke: ) I just take an extra mile to warm them up.
