Tennessee River Gorge

Looks like ths weekend's destination.  Sure, you might not think that sounds interesting, until you read this entry from Wikipedia:

The Suck in the Tennessee river ,much has been said about it but not a lot wrote down ,all the people that where alive when it was here are dead now and just a few of the ones who where alive to hear the story about it . It is located is at 35.07,12.39N -85.23,23.33 W if you look at it from goggle earth at 4000 feet you can see the eddy it cut out of the bank.In times of low water it was very dangers , and many a man has went thru it by falling off boats .steams boats could not get around it due to the shoals right at the creek just west of the suck a port was build to unload on the north side and a road going up and over raccoon mountain called the old hauling road to unload the boats in times of low water.

The suck is most likely due to a underwater cave going about a half of a mile under ground as the water came out there and in times of high water it would shoot trees out up to 50 feet in the air ,as told to me by my Uncle Bert McNabb who was born and raised in the valley .

The suck was drown out by the hales bar dam in 1913,but in times of high water you can still see it tuning in the river just out from the church.

Drove my Bandit to the suck, but the suck was dry....

On the other hand, the array of State, County and other roads with "27" in their name make a great loop up Suck Creek Mountain (really, I can send you a picture of the volunteer fire station with that name on it!) and back down the other side.

Almost all the roads up and down the mountain from "the top of the rock" (Monteagle TN) are great!
