ATRE or TRE mod

While sanding down my exhaust trying to get the worst of the road rash from last years accident out, I got to thinking about doing a TRE- throttle retard eliminator mod . I know some of you use the gear indicators that come with ATRE. Anybody do it the old fashioned way with just a resistor?
http://www.bugmanweb.com/gsxr/gsxrindex.html
gives instructions on how to do this to the GSXR, I'm not sure it would actually make much of a difference on a bandit. Then again who knows?
Any input and comment appreciated...

The timing retardation doesn't exist on US/CDN B12's. IIRC, the UK market ones have it, and it can be defeated by snipping a wire (but I forget which one) coming out of the neutral safety switch.
