The best mods for a 2000 1200s
« on: July 25, 2006, 02:42:23 AM »
I have bought a 2000 1200s Bandit. Only mods are a Super Trapp slip on and the lady gunfighter seat by Corbin. I just love this bike. Woulnd't have it if I wasn't restoreing a 79 cb F.
The Bandit seemed like the perfect bike to add.
I got it with 5100 miles and perfect condition. Was never raced and well looked after from what I can tell.
I do experience some of the cold nature these bikes seem to have however I was wondering what are the most tried and true methods for keeping the bike tip top.
There looks to be a bit of conversation about all this as I read through the site almost daily for the last month. I haven't post cus I've been riding so much.
The only thing I don't have is the best manual for the '00.
Let me know your thoughts and safe riding.

79 CBF?  I am willing to bet it is a little 750 to boot.  Worse off, I bet you also hang out over at that CB1100F.NET as well.   :stickpoke:  Too top it off, you didn't even fill in your location.  Shame, shame, shame.

If he does hang out there then he SHOULD know it is IMPERATIVE to fill in your location... At least when they would bust my balls about it.

You're going to have to find out if you have a jet kit allready. Chances are if the mixture plugs have been removed it might have been jetted. You can check that with a mirror.

Yes I know what yer talking about. I do hang out at 1100.net. Great site that one. Very good folk.
I don't mind being here either.  :beers:
So what am I looking for with a mirror? I've read somewhere that there is some plugs or caps that must be drilled out on the stock carbs before you can adjust them also. Thanks

First thing, since everyone's busting your chops on your user info in the sidebar, I'll join in, too... your avatar is too big. We ask that you use ones no bigger than 125x125 pixels - and your current one is too wide.

Second thing, what you're looking for with the mirror is to see if these screws have plugs over them or not:

If the plugs are still there, it's probably never been tampered with and will tend to be cold-blooded and too lean when warmed up. If the plugs are gone, someone has tried to make things better and may or may not have set it up right. It may or may not have a jet kit, but if it does, there's also a very good chance the airbox will have an extra 2" hole in it.

If you have the plugs over your screws, you will have to remove the carbs to drill them out.  It doesn't take much to drill them out, so do it slow.  If you go too deep you will screw the carbs up.

Ok, do I have all my ducks in a row now?
Thanks for the pic I will check that out.
Also if the pugs aren't there how does the adjustment work?

Same as on the F.  Turn out to make it richer, turn in to lean it.

I know that you hang out over there, as do I.  That is why I gave you grief.  I have a timing advancer and stage I jet kit from Hole Shot.  From what I have read, you really can't go wrong with either Ivan's or Hole Shot.  I have a Hole Shot high mount pipe, so I went with his jet kit as well.  I've had a few issues in the past that I had to weed out, but got it all figured out now.

Thanks, I'll look into that.
The folks at the 1100 site are great and a little off as well. Ray has helpped me out of a few jams.
